Continuing Education Hour Requirements
1. Every renewal applicant who applies for renewal of a license as a podiatric physician must complete 100 hours of continuing education (CE) relevant to the practice of podiatric medicine. (50 EACH YEAR)
2. A pre-renewal period is the 24 months preceding January 31 of each odd-numbered year.
3. A renewal applicant is not required to comply with CE requirements for the first renewal.
4. Podiatric physicians licensed in Illinois but residing and practicing in other states must comply with the CE requirements set forth in this Section.
OPIOID Requirement – 3 hours on safe opioid prescribing practices
1. Cultural Competency (1 hour) – Enhances your ability to provide culturally sensitive care to diverse patient populations
2. Implicit Bias (1 hour) – Helps identify and reduce unconscious biases that can affect patient outcomes
3. Sexual Harassment Prevention (1 hour) – Meets workplace safety and professional conduct requirements
4. Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia (1 hour) – Provides essential knowledge for recognizing and supporting patients with cognitive decline
Total requirement: 4 contact hours of state-mandated continuing education
